DWI Program

Alcohol and Drug Education Traffic School (ADETS)

For first -time offenders with a lower blood alcohol concentration (0.14 BAC or Lower) North Carolina requires completion of the ADETS Program.  Clients must begin attending ADETS classes within 6 months of their assessment or a new assessment will be required. 

Driving

ADETS utilizes Prime For Life curriculum which is an intervention program specifically designed for individuals making high-risk choices.  It's intended to change drinking and drug use behaviors even if you do not have a substance abuse disorder.  ADETS is a 16 hour program.  Once you successfully complete ADETS you will be eligible to have your driving privileges restored. 

Short-Term Program

Short-Term Outpatient Treatment Programs is intended for those with mild to moderate substance use issues.  This level of treatment will be recommended if the assessment reveals any of the following reasons: 

  • A BAC of 0.14 or higher 

  • Refusal to take a chemical test (breathalyzer) at the time of arrest. 

  • Biological risk factors for substance use 

 

Also, other problems such as grief, loss, depression or other untreated mental health issues that may have  

contributed to the DWI charge.

This program ranges from 20-39 hours and generally meets twice per week within 30 days. 

Long-Term Program

Long -Term Outpatient Treatment Program is intended for clients who meet the criteria for a drug or alcohol dependence. 

 

This program consists of a minimum of 40 hours of treatment over 60 days involving group and individual counseling.   

 

The 20 and 40 hour programs are offered during the day and evening.

(current record needed at time of DWI Assessment)

Note: All clients receiving 20 hours or more of DWI Treatment/Education must have a laboratory screening done at the beginning of first class.  Laboratory screenings may be utilized through the Beatties Ford Road Family Counseling Center's selected laboratory or a laboratory of client's choice.  Medicaid and private insurances are accepted for laboratory screenings.

 

ADETS clients will be required to have one onsite screening done at least once before completing education program.

GETTING AN APPOINTMENT FOR AN ASSESSMENT

For adults, we offer walk-in assessments at the following days/times:
Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 4:00pm | Fridays - 9:00am - 1pm

 

Walk-in appointments are limited and are on a first come first service basis. Clients must arrive by 9:30am with all needed documentation which improves your ability to receive a same-day assessment.
